Why a slow website loses you customers

Your website looks great, but takes several seconds to load on a phone? Your visitors won't wait. Speed has become one of the most important criteria, for your customers and for Google alike.

What your visitors experience

On a phone, people want information fast: opening hours, a number, an address. Every second of waiting increases the chance they go back and pick another result. A slow website also looks careless, and that reflects on your business.

What Google sees

Google measures how fast your pages load and how stable they are. With equal content, a fast website has a better chance of ranking above a slow one.

How to test your website in one minute

Open Google's free PageSpeed Insights tool, paste in your website address and look at the “Mobile” score. Above 90 is excellent. Below 50, you are probably losing visitors.

The most common causes

  • Photos that are too heavy, uploaded straight from a camera or phone.
  • Too many extensions or plug-ins added over time.
  • Cheap, overloaded hosting.
  • Poorly optimised videos or animations.

What can be done

Compress images and serve them in a modern format, remove what is no longer needed, choose fast hosting and have the website checked regularly. At Heverly, every website is optimised before launch, then monitored every month as part of the maintenance.

Nobody notices a fast website. Everyone notices a slow one.
